Appia Antica 400 wine

We make the Appia Antica 400 Red and White wines in the countryside of the Appia Antica Park, not far from the Rome.

The heart of the production is represented by the Historic Vineyard: four rows of Cabernet and four rows of Merlot, together with the historic Sémillon made available by a family friend, treated for over half a century organically and always respecting nature.

The Appia Antica 400 is produced with the best grapes, selected in the field during harvesting and before crushing on the sorting table, where the most immature grapes are discarded.

The musts are then fermented in truncated-cone-shaped cement tanks at a controlled temperature so as to preserve the characteristic aromas of the Appia Antica 400; the quantity of sulphites used is minimal, just enough to allow the selected natural yeasts to climb over the apiculate lees. We then age Appia Antica 400 in traditional oak barrels for a period ranging from 6 to 8 months in which the wine is constantly monitored and tasted regularly until it is bottled.

Intense, harmonious and absolutely unique in its kind, the Appia Antica 400 is a jewel of the Made in Italy that cannot be resisted.

Its taste is warm, soft, round and savoury. It is a full-bodied, robust wine with a mineral touch, typical of the agro-Roman volcanic soil.

Tasting notes

Appia Antica 400 is a brilliant wine with a straw yellow colour and golden reflections. It has a very intense perfume of fruity notes of citrus and exotic fruit, and floral ones reminding of broom and orange blossoms. Regarding its taste, it’s dry, fresh, acid in the right amount and characterised by a flavour and a minerality typical of the territory: persistent in the mouth, firm but at the same time harmonious and elegant. The Sémillon in this territory has a very particular personality that allows it to express its mineral and fresh characteristics to the fullest.
